While it Last!

There are some things meant to happen, yet some things are ought to be. More so, some things are needed to be broken and not to be fixed. Yes, it is somehow, because that is the reality! However, things should be done in order to fulfill what is lacking and become a better one. Things must be on their right places at the right time, probably, that’s the challenge of living.

We were created imperfect but unique on our own ways. We grow up, change and mature. Finally! I am now a senior student whom my classmates used to laugh with; share serious matters, obviously soon to graduate wearing togas with my precious seniors. Time runs so fast that I didn’t even notice that seven months had gone. What else could I say? We have only three months remaining for us to seize the moments together. For this, I felt very uneasy but most definitely happy.

LAST HIGHSCHOOOL YEAR. Every memory was kept in our hearts and in our minds. Then, I realized many significant things. One of which is that I still have tasks that I need to accomplish. Yes! Right.  MORE ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

Before I finally say GOODBYE to my Gracean Family, I want to prove myself first, a fact that I honestly don’t bother too much but signs sought and appeared. Show them what I’ve got and most significantly, to be an inspiring model or maybe a reflecting image to my fellow schoolmates—something worthy enough to i-forget-it-not-stuffs and attitudes. Especially the thing I want to be remembered and so I’ll leave a trademark in Divine Grace Montessori and High School, my beloved Alma Mater. I want to inspire everyone, encourage them so that they will give their very best to pursue despite all the troubles and bad instances they encounter.

Contentment. Completeness. Satisfaction. Gratitude. These were the feelings struggling here on my existence. I really love this institution, more than words can say. What I do have now are fragments of my treasures. TREASURES!

I don’t want to promise anything. The only one who knows the things I must do and not, aside from God is ME because I do agree that man has his own free will. Surreal, what’s gonna happen next? It’s Him who knows. It’s  God alone. So while it lasts, I’ll give my endless efforts. Won’t you allow me? I doubt you do. Laughs.

PLEASURE. It has been my great pleasure to study in this society, really. Glad to be part of this so called family— our very own Gracean Family!

Speaking of truths, despite of those little problems this Montessori School is encountering and for the coming circumstances that may not appeal to be a better one, I do believe that those will be the reasons and ways taking the path of attainment of our mission-vision desires and goals within this campus and will lead for us to achieve the peak of success.

Being optimistic—that’s what really matters, right? It’s beyond our views and perspectives in life. No matter what happens, I will never turn away from Divine Grace but the sure thing on me— someday, “I’ll be back with thankfulness!”. It’s the love that binds me here.

Thumbs up for everything surrounding DIVINE GRACE MONTESSORI Tayug Branch and I bow down to my grateful and blessed teachers!

While it lasts, I thank you so much DGMHS!

Filipinos Were Born Rich

INTRODUCTION
“Let me tell you about the very rich. They are different from you and me. They possess and enjoy early, and it does something to them, makes them soft where we are hard, and cynical where we are trusting, in a way that, unless you were born rich, it is very difficult to understand. They think, deep in their hearts, that they are better than we are because we had to discover the compensations and refuges of life for ourselves. Even when they enter deep into our world or sink below us, they still think that they are better than we are. They are different.”
— F. Scott Fitzgerald
Filipino, a race that is Asian by geography but has little in common with other Asian nations. A hard working, industrious, and very strong family oriented people, but notoriously useless at organizing anything beyond chaos as a nation of people. These were the descriptive words we barely read as we came to type the word FILIPINO through the internet. Yet, we as a researched group came to realize one thing: Filipinos were naturally what they were—humble with richness in many respective aspects in them. Don’t you feel excited in knowing what those are? First and foremost, the purpose of this researched paper was to highlight the wonderful facts-slash-reality that Filipinos have many reasons to have a positive lifestyle as they get along merely with the negative authenticity and news they daily hear about our beloved country. This was specifically design to inform every Filipino that we are rich through many things and to also encourage to help improve what we already have, be more creative for our economy’s progress, stay being who we are as Filipinos, cheer up  as we receive different awards in sports and other related cores, be reminded of our heroes’ history and never lose hope!

Rich in Natural Resources
"Curiosity led me to the island of paradise. This made me discover the hidden wonders of the land of the Orient Seas."
That feeling brought me in searching for some related web pages where I can find surveys or articles that will open my naked eyes of the reality why westerns embrace the fact that the Philippines is one of the poorest countries despite of its rich natural resources. One page answered that corruption rots our country and Filipinos themselves have no devotion nor feeling of responsibility in maximizing the use of our natural wonders. Meanwhile, an entry stated that some resources are undeveloped while those which are developed are owned by western businessmen in the country. Others argue that country's officials are selfish to the extent that they use natural resources for their own sake rather than for the prosperity of the Philippines. It was neither shocking nor alarming to learn all those opinions (it seems that somewhere inside me expects those presented ideas already.) Being a Filipino helps me realize all the statements being said was partly true. I can't blame them. On one side of my mind, I disagree but the other side approves.
Nevertheless, didn’t you know that our country is blessed with many natural resources? It has two distinct seasons: dry and rainy. Dry season usually falls during November to April while rainy season falls in May to October. Dry season does not mean there is no occasional rain. Same is true with rainy season where sun also shows some of the days. This season pattern supports rich flora and fauna of the country. Forest area is around ¼ of the total 300,000-square- kilometer land area of the country. With 7,107 islands, its coastline is one of the longest in the world. Around 2,400 fish species are found in the country. Many are for home consumption and for exportation. There are also wonderful beaches in many islands of the country which have captured the eyes of the world. Some of them have gorgeous collections of corals, reefs, clams and other marine creatures. Boracay Island Beach with white sands, clear water and palm tree lined ranks among the world’s top beaches. Our Tubbataha Reef National Park in Sulu is also a UNESCO heritage site with amazing displays of marine life. While living here in the Philippines, many existing expats, mostly married to Filipinos have enjoyed living in the Philippines. Davao, Butuan, Bohol, Dumaguete, Cagayan de Oro, Tablas Island, Leyte and Samar are found to be ideal retirement places. Your monthly income/pension, which may only allow you to live ordinarily in other countries, may already afford you to live a luxurious life in the Philippines. This is because of the cheap living standards in the country due to abundant supply of natural resources and low cost of labor.(Filipino Heritage, 2012)
Filipinos have this attitude for fighting for what they own; one ideal example would be the country's claim on some of the islands in South China Sea. While we are strongly inserting our rights over these islands we miss the fact that we have so many riches that are being infiltrated by foreign investors wherein they gain more than us. The westerns utilize our backyard for their own interest yet we keep quiet, we don't care because we really don't or we don't have the ability to make use of these gifts.
Foreign critics consider this small, silent country in the Pacific to be just a poor group of islands, a nation which bears a third world country status. But then, do these critics ruminate on every factor that this country has, its potentials and capabilities in establishing a  strong economy. The Philippines admits that this country is far, far away from the economies of United States, United Kingdom, France, or even from its Asian neighbors like Japan and South Korea but it's too much to put us on the third world bracket.
This country has so much to offer, not only to its people but to the world. In fact, our tropical rain forests are among the most species-rich ecosystems on earth. Our primary source of livelihood is our fertile land ----- rich, wide plains which are very suitable for farming. Also, the Philippines boasts its wide tracts of lush, green forests with almost half of country's total land area.
Here’s the certainty: Never have we considered money as the basis of Philippine growth and development. We have so many valued things to take care of; we should be grateful for so much blessings God has been giving us despite of controversies, weakness and every single sin or failure we made against the nature. But you know it always takes time to learn the lesson beyond those experiences and tragedies because we all fall short; yet we humbly acknowledge what we own.
On the brighter side, although we are still a third world country, the country's progress is being lauded by foreign critics. Recently, our country has achieved a higher credit rating from BB to BB+ which means that we are one lower below from an investment grade economy. This is a result of good governance and proper utilization of our riches. Slowly, the government and its people are learning to maximize the usage of its natural resources. This will help the country to attract more investors that will improve the country's finances. Yes, we need investments from other countries. It may sound cliche but the saying "No man is an island." is really true, to further progress and develop we need help from richer countries but of course with hard work and faith in our own riches capabilities.
Who said that this country is going nowhere? Well, we are here to tell you that the destiny of this nation is intact, new businesses are going to be built through our concealed natural treasures, new entrepreneurs are going to rise up and help us use our unseen abundance with millions of reserves. As we exploit our riches, we need to put in mind that we also need to take care of this because our mother earth has her way of getting back on us if we destroy her. Letting foreign countries exploit our riches is OK but we need to regulate and learn to stand up for our natural resources when it's too much.

It all starts from knowing who Filipinos are and that we are already made rich by God. From there, all wisdom and creativity to create money will flow. The Filipino people are resilient, talented, and wise and have the ability to make it in life! The Philippines has rich legacy and culture that nourishes its people. Talented artists were born here and created works with nature. I hope to see the Filipinos continuously cherish natural resources and preserve the ethnical culture for the next generation. The Philippines is a rich nation whose untapped natural resources are readily available to propel us into greatness! “Being rich is within Filipinos reach.”                                                                                                                                CONCLUSION                                                                                                                                                                          Filipinos claimed to be poor by different breeds of people—they might declare this when it comes to monetary matters but, is it the quantity of coin, bill or check that their country owns that determines whether its people is poor or not?
It is not the countless coins and bills inside their country’s central bank that makes Filipinos rich but is a reservoir containing an archipelago with 7, 107 amazingly crafted land pieces, hundreds or even thousands of brave and patriotic heroes, numerous who are continuously rowing titles and making history in the field of sports and a mass of people with a good heart, strong will power, faith in God and most of all, a race of people who have so much to be proud of their abundant natural resources to which they make a creative living; blessed with diverse and amazingly beautiful natural spots.

Philosophically Thinking

Was cutting the rope the best solution from the clip we have watched?
I have two sides in answering this question.
First was through the concept of consequentialism. According to my understanding, from what I have read regarding the information of consequentialist theory, in any situation, the morally right thing to do is whatever will have the best consequences. I noticed on the clip that deciding what to do with that particular situation was hardly unthinkable. This wasn’t just give and take routine or maybe does what they have told you to do so. Honestly putting myself there, I barely breathe. In fact, the people involved were some of the members of your family.  It was a heart pounding moment of their lives. Never expecting that to happened, the feeling was even worse. Even when the father shouted at them to cut the rope because the father thought cutting the rope is the only possible way in order to save his son and daughter’s life. But wait, the daughter disagreed; she kept on shouting back that no way that could happen. On the other side of her mind, maybe what she is trying to convey is that her life would somehow be useless without his father.
What’s keeping me from writing right now is when my mind continually repeats that ever frightening occurrence as if it happened to me. It turned out that the hardest decision made was on the hand of the one holding the knife where the idea of consequentialism enters. The son being not aware happens to be the one holding the “fate” of them. A fate that ignorantly holds them back from doing the right thing in contrast with the good thing. It’s a matter of fortune. It’s like getting the reward or letting it go. It tackles about the greatest good for the greatest number of people. And I think that’s what the whereabouts wanted to tell to the watchers; not in every perspective it pleases the one involved and there are things that’s not got to hold too long. Sometimes, we can’t avoid but to accept the reality that there are things and people vanish around us without knowing that they’ll never come back anymore. Maybe, it’s for the best. One more thing, based on the consequentialism , it definitely agrees that letting one human die for the sake of two is the greatest action. Amidst of what we shall do or what we ought to do, we always have our choice.
Secondly, I want to impart that this situation again also relates on the theory of divine command. This is what I love the most, sharing my thoughts when it comes to God and everything about Him. It says there that what is right is whatever God commands. There are two interpretations heeding this kind of ethics. One, something is right because God commands it. Two, God commands it because something is right. I have this doubt with the first statement. That’s why I will only give my side with regards to the second one.

Every single thing, scripture and what the Bible says is right, no need of justifications merely faith is what it takes for me. That’s what I believe in. It took me for a while to enunciate the phenomenon. They tried hardly enough to save their own lives, did these possible avenues but in the end they’ve got nothing. They ended up surrendering one life. Yes, I am concluding that God is sending a message for these people. And through that experience with their nerves shake, somewhere deep in their minds processed what God is trying to say. I’m assuring you know it. You just have to think of it, give it a rest and let the morality sinks in. God commanded the right workmanship for them to learn of the things they have to let go; to response for the claim and plans God made for them. If destiny acted upon on it, God took it to the limit!

ETHICAL ANALYSIS OF MORAL DILEMMA (Aristotelian Virtue Ethics)

In the telenovela “Maging Sino Ka Man..”, on which the three main characters face struggles, there were these problems arise regarding ethics that tackles about the small risk from the past. Edward who graduated from a prestigious university along with John and Elizabeth is a heart throb architect. On the other side, Elizabeth graduated as an academic scholar and currently working as a call center agent and John is a friend of both Edward and Elizabeth but what’s more interesting is that John is not only a batch mate of Edward but also a best friend.
Here’s how the complication encountered by them started as time goes by.  Edward had several sexual relationships with both men and women. When he was about twenty-five, the AIDS crisis occurred. Eventually he stopped but when he learnt about the safe sex, he began once again to have sex with men only. Unfortunately, Edward met Elizabeth and soon realized that he was gradually falling in love with her. Then, they began to see a lot of each other. Because of her changing him, Edward stopped having sexual relationship with men. In the midst of this decision, Edward saw a problem.  When the time came for them to make love, Edward is confused, undecided, undetermined and thoughtless. Have he got the guts telling Elizabeth about his past relationship? Would this end their relationship?
I will begin by reflecting this particular situation by saying, ‘Good actions are defined in terms of what a good person would do’. On the first place, with all respect, Edward is not a total good person. Therefore, we will never expect a good outcome and a good did. Since from the very beginning, we acknowledged him being not a good guy; it doesn’t mean to say that because he was not a good guy we will conclude that he is a bad guy. Given the argument, it will take for a while in order for Edward to become aware that something isn’t right inside him. Take note: from the very first instance.
It follows that in Aristotle’s Virtue ethics, being a good person is about doing right actions, not about knowing something. Also, the broad implication of what it means to be ‘virtuous’ and how we will acquire these kind of virtues emphasize that we have to promote good—admirable qualities through possessing what makes a person good and what will form this kind of actions. According to Aristotle, a good person has the characteristics like honesty, bravery, generosity, courage, chastity etc. But in our present time chastity was disclaim as part of this ethical theory for some reason. One, society’s effect and for two, the context of changing time within changing circumstances—no permanent. Therefore, in Edward’s case, he is not a person who doesn’t know what the right thing to do and is not doing it but instead he is an evil person who is simply ignorant or mistaken about what the right thing to do. Ignorance is a mere reason of evil people or evil things. On the other way around, the avoidance of existing vices is unpredictable. We can’t withhold these things. Vices as we all know are practices or outsets that are immoral. For example, a jealousy is a vice while patience is a virtue. Quite big difference as you will notice.
Consequently, Elizabeth who is unwittingly innocent on what’s going on has the right aspect to know about Edward’s past relationship. On the slightest sense, I figure out by virtue of ethical theory that we always do have a ‘feeling’ for right and wrong. Thus, this only implies that only we really feels when we experience the right value of our lives—that’s when we receive the concept of what we so –called the ultimate happiness. When nothing seems inconvenient and unsuitable, when everything we undergo please us.  In fact, Edward loves Elizabeth and so Elizabeth does. On that account, it is properly the right way to do so. In fact, it was described in Aristotelian Virtue Ethics, every single entity must be in accordance with balance. It means, we should not meet excessive or deficient manners in any way possible because this theory shows us that we must avoid it. Initially, virtue is a midpoint between excess and deficiency. A mean over the extreme. We must learn so that it could happen. It reminds me of Aristotle’s quote: Those that know, do. Those that understand, teach.  Somehow, there’s a part of it that says we should start in engaging or practicing the skills in our own virtue. Aristotle stated that ethical concerns don’t give a formula for right actions. It doesn’t give us an easy way to know what the right thing to do. It would say, the right thing is what a virtuous person supposed would do.
Before I’d say what is wrong with the second argument I am going to present to you, I want first to elaborate the essence of virtue in improving our lives and contributing to our overall well-being—the good life. This will help you understand more about my point in proving my statements as we go on. All men by nature desire knowledge. But what commonly happens are these: people resist on their own selves the good attitudes and characteristics they acquire in them. In reality, this usually happens. What’s funnier is that they will find out later on that it gets complicated as time flies.
Let’s take for an example Edward developed his virtues though constant practice and his qualities of mind enhanced through habitual instruction. Hence in moral facet, Edward then will be as courageous as he might be, meaning he works without fear but not as much as rash. He is appropriately afraid as well as appropriately brave. He is now courageous it is only because he slowly overcome his fears. Therefore, I say, Virtue Ethics talks about ‘characteristics not actions’. Thus, I assent to Aristotle’s approach—a kind of a person you should be. Now, it is morally acceptable for Edward to withhold the information considering the new Edward with good virtues. Otherwise, it is not. While in intellect facet, seeing the mere fact that whatever the decision Edward will come up with as long as it will lead to happiness, still, it is good to withhold the information. To clear things up, this is in relation only for the sake of individual benefit—Edward’s.
Straightaway, If Edward was tested HIV positive, and then his moral duties may not differ and change from time to time. The utter basis that we decided in as much as Edward achieved already his habitual state or disposition where the doing of his virtuous act has become a kind of second nature on the part of the human person is our main point. Yet, the arena of ethical activity has disadvantages also. It is relativistic. On the contrary, its advantages still took over. First, a virtuous person thinks differently. Second, he/she looks upon the world in a different way by thinking through virtue ethics. Next, he/she tries to understand how a virtuous person sees a situation. Hence, I affirmed that Edward will manage to handle the situation although for instance that problem may arise. Thus, his moral duty is to avoid having sexual affairs from this time on because he is a good person. He should remain good.
Moreover, John has a moral right and duty to tell Elizabeth that entire he knows about Edward. In consequence of the fact that Eudaimonia which refers to happiness or rather excellence based on Aristotle’s findings, the triads we need to deal with are the golden men or the just middle—friendship, modesty, courage, ambition, self-control, honesty, liberality, and god humor. These works best to the best result. These only suggest that John having one of those personalities, no matter what action he may act is good.  Being a human who dominates ‘good qualities’ and a power of thought add the reason why should he tell to Elizabeth what actual scenario is happening. Fortunately, John is an acquaintance of both Elizabeth and Edward. There’s no guarantee hiding; therefore, John not only wants the happiness of Elizabeth but also John helping Edward in making the situation lighter as possible it could be. On this case, it is good unlocking the definite and unequivocal truth and John is absolutely good. He harms no one.
While on the case of Edward on the other hand having a moral right and duty to privacy concerning his sexual life is quite connected to personal convictions. Yet, it is not held by society but rather held by individuals alone. Believe me, Edward is self-sufficient. Once Edward has it, it is good to have. I will now defend this claim in a gentle initiation focusing the argument not in a broader process. We judge people in terms of something that are done in a right way. Yes, we should. And not just telling the truth that matters. Since Edward have already this nature of habitual sex engagement, we mold his character through ages by doing things habitually so that he will become as an individual with a character development. Likewise, Edward is attainable. He is real and accessible.  Again, Aristotle stated in his virtue ethics that his theory ‘doesn’t tell you what to do and doesn’t tell you what actions you should take’. In order for one to acquire these virtues, you must be willing to learn and then put what you learn into practice. That’s what matters the most. Using cardinality, virtues work together and cannot exist on their own—temperance, courage, wisdom and justice being the most prestigious virtue of them all, as it is only achieved after years of learning. Besides, it passes through us in the right time, right person, right place, right manner etc. Until then, helping Edward would be charitable and benevolent.  This entails and agrees without doubt in Aristotle’s ethics.
Given that a virtue is such a multi-track disposition, it would obviously be reckless to attribute one to an agent on the basis of a single observed action or even a series of similar actions, especially if you don't know the agent's reasons for doing as Edward did (Sreenivasan 2002). Moreover, to possess, fully, such a disposition is to possess full or perfect virtue, which is rare, and there are a number of ways of falling short of this ideal (Athanassoulis 2000). Possessing a virtue is matters of degree, for most people who can be truly described as fairly virtuous, and certainly markedly better than those who can be truly described as dishonest, self-centered and greedy, still have their blind spots—little areas where they do not act for the reasons one would expect. So someone honest or kind in most situations, and notably so in demanding ones may nevertheless be trivially tainted by snobbery, inclined to be disingenuous about their forebears and less than kind to strangers with the wrong accent. (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, 18th July 2003)
Further, it is not easy to get one's emotions in harmony with one's rational recognition of certain reasons for action. John may be honest enough to recognize that He must own up to a mistake because it would be dishonest not to do so without Edward’s  acceptance being so wholehearted that He can own up easily, with no inner conflict. Following (and adapting) Aristotle, virtue ethicists draw a distinction between full or perfect virtue and “continence” or strength of will. The fully virtuous do what they should without a struggle against contrary desires; the continent have to control a desire or temptation to do otherwise.
Clear judgment, self-control, symmetry of desire and artistry of means—the concepts that might describe a man possessing these masculine sort of excellence further supports the claim that comes from practical or moral wisdom. Since, John’s knowledge of Edward’s homosexual relationships came through shared confidence between close friends. To end, it is not a violation to disclose the information taken the place of every character on this telenovela. Henceforth, their characters will be the guiding path—‘respect and right’ that will lead us on a very accurate conclusion.
Describing the continent as “falling short” of perfect virtue appears to go against the intuition that there is something particularly admirable about people who manage to act well when it is especially hard for them to do so, but the plausibility of this depends on exactly what “makes it hard” (Foot 1978, 11–14). If it is the circumstances in which the agent acts—say Edward confess the real scenario and his unacceptable and imprudent behavior —then indeed it is particularly admirable of her to restore the relationship or give Edward another chance when it is hard for her to do so. But if what makes it hard is an imperfection in her character—the temptation to keep what is not hers, or a callous indifference to the suffering of others—then it is not.
Bear in our minds that virtuous act is that which proceeds from the right intentions—the action is desired solely for its own sake. There are no reason justifying virtues. Every human person aims for happiness. Our experience of actions in life brought up in fine habits to become good. For a person to become virtuous, he/she can’t simply study what virtue is, but most actually do virtuous things. What you are bringing to life sprang from good behavior/characters. A flourishing experience of actions in life on which we refer the ‘Aristotelian Virtue Ethics’.

The claim that this is, straightforwardly, a mistaken conception, reveals the point that eudaimonia is, avowedly, a moralized, or “value-laden” concept of happiness, something like “true” or “real” happiness or “the sort of happiness worth seeking or having.” It is thereby the sort of concept about which there can be substantial disagreement between people with different views about human life that cannot be resolved by appeal to some external standard on which, despite their different views, the parties to the disagreement concur.

In Social or Crucial?

“A certain small dot now begins to be a hole”. A destructive hole that you can easily fall with.
High tech. you can now just stay connected through logging in on different social networking websites linked all over the world. Go to a computer shop. Open the windows, click the link and you are brought to like. Connecting with facebook, twitter as an exciting and fun way of socialization.
Nowadays, new generation people started using computers very insignificantly. Why so? On its foremost reason, researchers and scientist specialized science to produce technologists that is needed for the advancement of the future. It was also known that the most populated outliners was located in Asian countries. Moreover, Philippines is one of the most websites users. Unlimited addiction over the games and internets worsening the situation.
Students instead of going home early, they go with the flow and trendings, be doomed. Blend with the youth. Worst, even how intelligent people are, there are still instances that they do forget to apply what they have learned. Realistically, “Nature of Man”.
To attach easily, updating and through emails is how families tie together. Amazing, Filipinos are very socialistic. The fact that even if we do not see our loved ones and they are miles far away, online networking sites is the only way to stay connected.
A perfect time will come. The hole that is too destructive will sooner be replace by good opportunities that someday, everything that has to be made will be use in not such a crucial way but instead in a social sense.
